I watched a lot of sesame street and the muppets as a child but for some reason do not remember swedish chef. Martha was showing me some of these episodes and they are just hilarious. Somehow I never get tired of his theme song.

Friday night me and Martha went out to a Chinese restaurant and ate some very good Sichuan cooking. Well, on Saturday we decided to cook a similar meal for ourselves and we made BBQ short ribs, a simple ginger pickled napa cabbage, two dipping sauces, and salad rolls with mint, basil, and romaine. For breakfast the next day we heated up the ribs, added a pile of cilantro, and threw together a little smorgasbord.

Then we went on a little picnic to Billy Goat Hill park. This reminded me of when I was 16 and went on picnics with Beth-Marie and Justin.

I don’t normally post links but these are very funny. Martha sent me this video of a guy who makes records out of chocolate. Ben showed me this clip from some German or Dutch movie of a very amusing and savage manner of making a salad. Perhaps if I made Ben a salad like this he might try some?

Down the Willamette

Inspired perhaps by Robin Cody, I canoed down a river for the first time. With Kate and Riley we were looking for fossilized wood. The food I threw together rather haphazardly. For breakfast on the second day I made cous cous with onions, carrots, chives and cheddar cheese. Dinner was most satisfying though. After paddling all day we ate Deck farms hot dogs on Little T pretzel rolls.

A hike in forest park

On Saturday I went on a hike in forest park. I walked 17 miles and discovered a few things of interest, including the fact that mosquitos are quite prevalent in the spring, (or the soggy days of summer.)

I brought along an Afghan shawl that my father sent me. After the hike I had a late dinner at Clyde Commons. I was quite smelly from the hike, and this shawl must have made me look quite peculiar. I took this photo when I got home at 12:30.

I love jargon. While wiring my fan I noticed that the box bolted to the outside of the fan is called a ‘circuit-lock® manual motor controller’. This box contains a switch, and nothing else!

Food TV

Kate and I watched Jamie Olivers new reality TV show tonight. The first two episodes show his experience dealing with the school lunch scene. Nutritional absurdities, breakfast pizza, beurocratic nightmares. It’s all so familiar from when I was cooking at Abernethy.

I’ve been watching episodes of Julia Child every now and then as well.
