A few things

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Yesterday at Little T Addie was being interviewed and videotaped. She was picking up her daily order of mini baguettes (3 grocery bags worth) and answering some questions. “How did you choose Little T?” the documentarian asked. “I read about all the bakeries in town and Little T was supposed to be the best.” That’s all I picked up while I was in line.

Kate is suffering from a stomach virus. Her doctor has reccomended a diet of bananas, buttered toast, and mashed potatoes.

For the cart I purchased some denim insulation and ordered a custom threshold for the door.

Grochau

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I helped out John Grochau bottle some Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir today at his winery in the NW industrial area. He had rented an on site bottling line. This was a trailer about 20 feet long with the most amazing stainless steel and teflon machinery. It’s speed was limited only by the human inputs and outputs, but we got it going at about 1 bottle per second! We bottled in 4.5 hours perhaps 6000 bottles. Unfortunately I don’t have a more dramatic photo. When we were bottling there was no time for photos.

Flooring finished

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

The floor nailer needs to be returned tomorrow, so I finished up today. As expected, there are lots of squeaks, but I’ve discovered how to silence them. I just put a few screws in the floor wherever I detect one.

Weekend meals

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

The arugula in the garden is just ready to eat. The leaves are small and thick and soft, tasting sweet and mildly peppery. The radishes are being eaten by ants. They chew into the tops, often biting the leaves off. But fortunately they are just ready to eat as well.

For helping Lindsey and Elle move into their new house, Lindsey’s mom made pizzas for us. They were really good and quite unique. She made a spicy barbecue style tomato sauce with sausage, and also a thick dill paste sauce for another. I’ll have to try some of this next time I make pizza.
