Cherries at Lindseys

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Lindsey called me up to let me know her cherry tree was ripe. This is a huge, ungainly thing, with most of the fruit out of reach. I picked all the low hanging clusters, up to about 12 feet I suppose. The yield? 10 pounds. They go in the freezer for me to deal with next week. This weekend I’m off to Lookout Mountain.

Coffee, drip hybrid brewing

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

I’ve been brewing coffee using a hybrid french press and drip method.

The coffee is steeped for 2 or 3 minutes in a pitcher. I weigh out the grounds and water. Sometimes Joels coffee is so light I have to use double the amount, or steep for longer.

I rinse the paper filter out before using to neutralize the taste.

It takes about 2 minutes to drain. I think I’m doing this mainly to fool around. Grinding to a certain grit using the espresso grinder would help, as well as not using paper, but only metal.

Zenger farm solstice party

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

This is only the second time I’ve used my big mixer. I made a 10 pound batch of dough and it handled it just fine.

I made seven loaves of buckwheat/whole wheat bread. You can see a half loaf in the center top of the frame.

Rain came down sporadically and we hunkered down in the old dairy barn. Everybody agreed this weather was very odd. One person mentioned that the rain continues into the summer like this once every 7 years.

Countertop

Chris is building the counter. The mixer is on rollers and can be pushed underneath into a parking space.
